Workshop 20’s and 30’s Charleston (06/07 Augustr 2016) - Register HERE
If you’re ready to fall down the Partnered and Solo Charleston, then get ready to delve in! Inside of this workshop there are two days of detailing ins & outs and ups & downs of leading and following Charleston in multiple positions. Learn to be relaxed while moving at faster, upbeat tempos while still maintaining your improvisational freedom. Whether your partner is in front of you, next to you or behind you, these techniques will provide the foundation needed to express yourself through lead and follow Charleston comfortably. Get ready for lots of Style in Lindyland Adventure!
20’s Charleston: 6 August
Session 1 – Solo 20’s Charleston and Authentic Jazz (12.00-13.15 Uhr)
In this session you will decorate your Solo Charleston with combination of Jazz steps and Charleston style. The secret is not in What to do, but how you do it: how you play with directions, time and body movement. You will learn how to transform simple cross behind steps and Suzi Q’s into a sophisticated rhythmic movement.
Session 2 – 20’s Hook Turns and Slides (13.45-15.00 Uhr)
After this session you will be able to do properly 20’s turns and slides. You are going to learn one of the few techniques of creating a slide. As well options and ideas of where to place it in your dance, how to create step variations by filling it with slide.
Session 3 - 1920’s to 1930’s Transitions (15.15-16.30 Uhr)
This session will be focus in transitions and you will be able to switch from 20’s to 30’s surprising precisely your partner on the dance floor. By twisting and turning it’s elements we will create interesting routes towards variations. You will know how to make musical syncopations, jumps and transitions and how to invite your upper body to the party.
In this last session we will teach a fancy and challenge Charleston partner moves very common on the 20’s dance floors! In the end we will create together a routine with the majority of the moves you learned in this day.
30’s Charleston: 7 August
Session 1 – Solo 30’s Charleston (12.00-13.15 Uhr)
In this session we will give you a couple of spices for your 30’s Charleston when you dance without a partner. Discover technique secrets like how to dance fast enjoying your movement and it’s music! Including some great vocabulary jazz steps like Jump Charleston, Drunken Sailor and Squat Charleston.
you will be fine-tuning our technique, look and feel in classic moves such as hand-to-hand, side-by-side, 1930′s Charleston and Tandem Charleston. We will also play with some exciting combinations that are great on the social dance floor.
Session 2 – Airplane and Shadow Charleston (13.45-15.00 Uhr)
We will add lots of vocabulary to your dancing and learn how to break from close position to open away your partner. We will focus in the classic move Airplane and variations and transitions. The final goal is to make your Charleston creative and dynamic, playing around on the dance floor surprising your partner.
Session 3 - Eagle Slides, Shouts and S-Turn (15.15-16.30 Uhr)
The last session we will create a routine between exciting combinations with rare and special moves, that you don’t see so often on the dance floor. We will work more on your style and expand your vocabulary for a more authentic and beautiful dance. You are going to learn techniques of creating a proper slide. As well options, ideas of where to place it in your dance with Eagle slides, Shouts and S-Turns.
Each lesson will be 75 minutes long, so that we’ll have plenty of time to go over everything and get the practice needed to settle the new information in our bodies.
Both courses complement each other and when taken together can give you a total Charleston experience!
What do you need to know to participate in the workshop?
You have either taken several local classes in 20s/30’s or attended the earlier workshop. You are confident enough to dance Charleston socially but perhaps don’t have a large repertoire and want to explore the wider possibilities within Charleston footwork. We also hope you have some understanding of Lindy hop basic footworks (6 beat, 8 beat and 30’s Charleston) as we will be using that in part of the workshop
